SAY: Playing a positive role in the community

Over the years SAY has always been a part of the community and continually supports local organisations, charities and events - from sponsoring kits and minibuses for local sports teams, to our long association with York Rotary Club’s charity Golf Day. We feel it is an important part of who we are as a company. For regular updates and news on all our latest projects, follow us on Facebook.

World Association of Kickboxing Organisations

WAKO is the largest unified kickboxing organisation in the world. It has over 110 countries currently in membership. In 2006, it became recognised as the world governing body for kickboxing. SAY have a close affinity with the sport of kickboxing, with our director a keen participant and active member of WAKO. As one of the organisation's main sponsors, SAY are keen to see the sport grow and become more successful.

We are currently sponsoring young athlete, Paris Rose Smith, who started boxing at Legions Gym in York in March 2017 and made her boxing debut in October that year. In less than 2 years, Paris has already become European Champion in girls' under-14s boxing!

Minster FM Local Hero Awards, 2014

Every year, Minster FM celebrates the achievements of North Yorkshire's most inspirational people in our Local Hero Awards.

On Friday 21st February, they hosted a glittering ceremony at York Racecourse featuring a live performance by Beth McCarthy from The Voice. We were proud to be main sponsor for the event and help acknowledge the heroes from our local community.

York Rugby Union Football Club

Over the last year we have seen the completion of the clubhouse development, which SAY had the opportunity to be a part of, providing the scaffold. The development committee continue to work tirelessly in their ambitions to make Clifton Park Sports Club one of the finest places to play sport in the county.

When you compare the facilities at Clifton Park to other rugby clubs, we are sure you will agree that we are lucky to be able to play rugby here.

Over the last few years, the rugby club, like any other business in the world, has faced its own financial challenges with many of the individuals and businesses who have traditionally supported the club having to tighten their own purse strings.

The club is heavily dependent upon its sponsors and was extremely grateful to its main sponsors, Grantside, SAY Group of Companies / SAY Scaffolding (Northern) Ltd, PM Flooring, Sporting Connexions and, of course, the Quality Street Gang for their continued support.

Charlie Maddock

Part of the same GB Taekwondo team that saw Jade Jones win gold in London 2012, Olympic hopeful Charlie Maddock smashed through her first challenge after switching sports. The 5ft 4in Packmoor powerhouse admits she found herself increasingly lacking motivation in kickboxing after scooping virtually every accolade available in a stellar career. Maddock had been the best kickboxer in the world at 60kg before changing disciplines to chase her Olympic dream, taking part in GB Taekwondo's Fighting Chance scheme.

The coaches earmarked her for a future in the under-49kg division, and her time in the treatment room helped her reach the tough weight target ahead of schedule.

SAY has provided regular support that has enabled Charlie to keep concentrating on her training as her medals and awards rack up.

Liam Harrison

Liam is one of the top names in UK Muay Thai with 3 world titles and a string of international wins. He has fought and won twice in Japan and spent just over 18 months in Thailand training and fighting professionally. During this time he won the WMPC World title and fought in Ratchadamnoen and Lumpini Stadium a number of times.

His greatest achievement so far is winning the coveted WMC World title which he took in an exciting rematch with then champion, Numphon PK Sterio. He had lost a highly disputed points decision a few months earlier but left no doubt when he won by KO in round 4. He has fought on some of the biggest promotions in the UK over recent years against some of the top international names in the sport, including several well-known Thai fighters. Harrison has also been boosted by sponsorship from SAY Group of Companies / SAY Scaffolding (Northern) Ltd, run by Phil Wetten, who is also a member of the national WAKO martial arts and sits on the board as a director.
